Stories of Santorini…Part 4: Food!

Listening now…

First off I wanted to say thank you for bringing us up to 700 followers!!

I am so incredibly humbled and every time I reach another mile stone it makes me want to focus on this even more and more. This is really my little sanctuary and I am so thankful for it. It doesn’t seem like that long ago that I blogged about my 500 followers milestone!

So, what better way to celebrate big things than food?! In Greece they definitely celebrate their food…

Greek frappes were an every day occurrence for us. #Caffeine

Speaking of food….it’s a good thing there are a million steps in Santorini. Walking up the side of those caldera cliffs isn’t easy, but oh so worth it. We managed to both come home actually weighing less than before we left! We counted 110 steps to walk up and down from our hotel every day.

Here is a list of our favorite places that we were lucky enough to wine and dine at on our trip:

Let’s start with Gyros. All day every day.

We thought our festival gyros at home were good until we tried them in Greece. They always put french fries on their gyros and paprika! Also in Greece I noticed they do other meat besides lamb, which makes me think that the lamb Gyro is the Americanized version.

We went to Lucky’s Souvlakis and we ended up going there like once a day. Lol. When in Greece!

Heliotopos Hotel Restaurant and Wine Bar

We ate at our hotel, Heliotopos, a few nights and that was amazing. It doesn’t get much better than eating out on the Terrace overlooking the sunset.

helio.jpg

My wonderful mama sent us wine and a cheese plate! Heaven….

wine bar.jpg

This is where we had breakfast every morning- buffet style complete with fresh fruit, homemade jams and Greek pastries.

Sunset in Ammoudi Bay

We were lucky enough to get to eat at Sunset Ammoudi twice- the first time for actual dinner and the seconds for appetizers and wine as we watched the sunset.

ammoudi.jpg

To get down to the restaurant, you have to walk the  Oia to Ammoudi Bay  steps, which I wrote about in my Santorini Bucket List.

steps .jpgammoudi.jpgammoud wineammoudi wine 2ammoudi 2.jpg

As you can see, your table is literally on the edge of the Bay. The wine bucket was perched on the side of the edge of the table only held up by a metal piece. It was such a unique experience!

What made it even more unique was when we heard a splash and looked over to see a man swimming in the water.  (I wish I got a picture of that!) Now, Greek water in May is freezing on even a hot and sunny day. Our waiter told us “Oh yes, that is our staff- he jumps into the water to grab people’s things when they drop them from their tables.”

Talk about Greek hospitality.

wine.jpgwine and boat.jpg

I am really not a fish person. But the waiter said, ” If you don’t like it I promise I will bring you something else and offer my sincerest apologies.” He said he would bring me the least “fishy” tasting fish they had.

I believe this was a Mackerel and it was actually good- although I would not order it myself.

Our waiter stood at our table for a good while picking out every single bone and explaining about the fish to us.

Metaxy Mas- Exo Gonia, Santorini

This was our absolute favorite restaurant of the entire trip.

metaxy

The view outside of Metaxy Mas.

When you sit down you are greeted warmly with a complimentary dish of cheese, olives, and bread as well as what we thought was a jar of water at first. Upon drinking this strong liquid we realized this was definitely not water, but a very potent liquor oh which I am unsure of the name! Haha.

While here, I fell in love with this pottery dish that our wine was served in. I asked Frankie if he thought they might sell them. Since it had their name on it I thought maybe they did! Who knows?! Anyway, we asked our waitress who very politely said, ” I don’t know, let me go check.” A few minutes later she came back with a carefully wrapped paper with tape. She said, “It’s a gift.” And handed me my beloved pottery!

Between this “gift,” the man who jumped into the water at Sunset Ammoudi to get people’s things, all of the complimentary dishes we were served, and our hotel staff, I am still truly humbled with the hospitality we experienced in Greece.

met 6.jpgmenu.jpgmet 5.jpg

We both agreed that this was the best thing we have ever eaten. Ever.

This was a 4 cheese pastry with a blackberry sauce.

Frankie seems to think it is the Greek Kataifi.

I am pretty sure we licked the plate clean and savored every second.

And the view isn’t bad either…!

Anogi- Imerovigli, Santorini

This was our second favorite place and we ended up going here on a whim on one of our last nights even though we passed it on the quad every day coming and going from our hotel. It was walking distance from our hotel and truly yummy! This is also where Frankie tried Ouzo, an extremely strong Greek liquor. It has a Licorice like taste, so it was not my favorite at all! But something I felt like I had to try : )

I wish I got a picture of my actual main dish…

Greek food is definitely yummy and they really love their pastries, frappes, cheese, and olives.

Did I make you hungry?

Thanks for reading and stay tuned! I think I am going to do one more part : )  XOXO

November gratitude: week 3

Listening now….

I am grateful for songs like this that bring tears to my eyes and have so much meaning of gratitude in them.

“I don’t care if the house is packed
Or the strings of light are broken
I don’t care if the gifts are wrapped
Or there’s nothing here to open
Love is not a toy, and no paper will conceal it
Love is simply joy that I’m home
I don’t care if the carpet’s stained we’ve got food upon our table
I don’t care if it’s gonna rain, our little room is warm and stable
Love is who we are, and no season can contain it
Love would never fall for that”

We usually don’t listen to Christmas music before Thanksgiving, but this year I caved!

Monday has come again and I  enjoyed a Sunday night snuggled up with a glass of wine and my computer on my lap to blog our 3rd week of November gratitude!I sat in the cozy living room with mama watching the Christmas lights around me twinkle and smelling the pine scented candles mom had lit. Tidings of comfort and joy… Puppies snoring behind me, too. I enjoyed every bit our last moment of peace and serenity before another busy week…

Week 3 gratitude:

angel I am grateful for the change of the seasons and the opportunity to embrace all that they have to offer. This weekend, that meant a holiday farmer’s market (in 65 degrees and sunny) and decorating for the holiday.

angel I am grateful for food in my belly and a holiday to celebrate one of my favorite things, eating.

Just kidding, it’s about being thankful…

And eating.Lots of eating!

angelI am grateful for the ability to express myself through my sense of style and through blogging.

And for a patient mama who can take pictures of me for my blog. Good thing she’s a blogger too so she gets it!

Here’s what I wore to the Holiday market! #OOTD

I am like a walking ad for H&M. The pants, shirt, and duster are all from there!

(Not planned)

I wanted these shoes all summer. I finally found them for $7 on sale at Target at the end of the season!

angelI am grateful for our first big snowfall, my cozy home, and family traditions for Christmas.

(By the way- this was Saturday night into Sunday- right after our 65 and sunny day!)

We decorated on Saturday with the warm weather and felt lucky to wake up to snow and be able to enjoy our Christmas decorations with the snow falling outside.

Happy Saturyay! As happy as I am, why does it have to be nice out when I am at work and forecast for rain on the weekend?! Anyway… still the weekend, woohoo!

A little while ago on Instagram, I came across this:

Of course my first thought was “=0!”   I have to know who this is!

I messaged the Instagrammer and found it to be:

gretcehn hersefl.jpg

I think she is just brilliant and so clever. Two of my favorite things in one: food and art!

Can you imagine living in a world where everyone is made out of food?

Here is her website  and her instragram. Both, of course, fabulously decked out with ladies rocking their food.

Which is great because let’s face it, we don’t always feel like we rock our food…

I feel like I have dreamed of being both a cookie and a waffle before….

What do you all think?

I hope you all had a good weekend! I feel pretty refreshed overall and I got to sleep in…

Friday

Friday night Frankie and I went to a new food truck event that will be going on every friday.

I got an apple grilled cheese and he got a cubano, just like in the movie Chef! If you have not seen Chef yet, I highly recommend. Frankie and I joke about buying a food truck and traveling all over just like in the movie….

Saturday

On Saturday, I literally did only one productive thing and that was bringing in wood. The rest of the day I spent in bed, watching Downton Abbey and cuddling with the pups.

Pretty laid back day overall…

Later on, we had ourselves one cozy night…

downton and wine.jpg

In my Loving lately post awhile back, I talked about my obsession with Downton Abbey. I may have mentioned it a few other times, too….

I’ve reached season 5 of Downton already- so I am kind of panicking! Since I have been on such a hardcore binge, I have neglected Shameless lately- so will definitely be picking that back up again when I’m all out of Downton [but I will also cry, first].

Oh! And the wine I am drinking currently is: Menage a Trois… yummy.

wine.jpg

So that’s pretty much how my Saturday went. I was debating going out dancing, but I was low on funds this weekend and pretty content at home with my pups and my wine. Ahhhh, the life of an introvert….

Sunday

Today was beautiful. 60 degrees in the sunshine and springy goodness- I was outside all day helping Mama with her gardening. Check out her page for frequent garden updates and to see her little garden up close and personal!

This little guy was found wandering around…. it’s early to see them, too!caterpillarmunch playing

We had to visit our neighhhhbors with a special carrot snack for them…meet Sassy and BJ.

I also found a use for the pretty wine bottle I have been saving! Mama gave me some dried hydrangeas and I really love the way they look in the bottle:

This beautiful shell was found outside near the garden when we moved in, too. I took it inside and am using it to carry my crystals- this is sitting right next to my bed : )

What did you do this weekend? Tell me below!

Thanks for reading XOXO

Weekly Round up

Listening now…

This song just makes you happy. Dance your Friday happy dance with me!

P.S.- I would love to be road tripping, canoeing, and roasting marshmallows on a beach somewhere like they are in the video- soon enough summer will be here! = )

Do you ever just have a week where you feel proud of yourself?

I had a great week, I hope you all did too! Welcome weekend! I plan on sleeping in and enjoying the warmer spring weather to come.

Weekly Round up:

I cooked 2 dishes this week in an effort to learn how to cook, made a big step towards a career with animals [hopefully I will have good news later, until then-can’t say much more!] I also went to the gym last night and my boyfriend taught me some of his gym techniques, which brought me out of my safe-gym routine comfort zone and brought on my sore muscles this morning, especially in the left arm.

Quiche is my all time favorite dinner lately. My mama showed me how to make her famous Quiche recipe– I highly recommend clicking on that link if you love a delicious and easy quiche. And if you’d like your quiche to look as delectable as this:

Yummmmm. I love how you can add pretty much anything you want to it and it is pretty healthy, too!

On wednesday, I made my love dinner. It’s been awhile since I have cooked for him[and I barely cook in general, but want to learn!], so I was struggling to find a relatively easy but yummy recipe.

blog 3.jpg

I settled on a garlic parmesan chicken, rice, butternut squash, and texas toast. It was simple, but really good!

blog 5.jpg

Since I did the cooking, he brought the wine- which was really good. I’ve only recently gotten into red wines at all and I am having fun exploring.

blog 9 wine

It’s described as,

“California- Intense fruit aromas and flavors of rhubarb and black cherry that are complemented by hints of mocha and vanilla. The plush, velvety mouthfeel and smooth finish round out this intriguing, full-bodied red blend.”

Yummmm. You can find this wine here–

The puppies enjoyed the chicken mixed in with their pebbles, too. As you can clearly see, they picked it out and left the pebbles scattered…. as I previously mentioned, struggles of a jack russell include when mommy gives you this yummy food but you must pick these annoying pebble things out of it.

Frankie stepped on one I had failed to pick up later that night and cursed in pain….oh puppies….

Last night, after the gym-  Frankie and I were famished and went to grab a burger. I loved the style of the restaurant, I had to take pictures!

Little Tidbits

I amazed myself this morning since I was able to wake up early to play sims, (I go through phases, right now I am quite obsessed) and still managed to make myself quite a delicious breakfast of yogurt, granola, bananas, and chai honey and this yummy and healthy lunch! :

Farmer’s market honey crisp apples, pumpkin butter from the country store, with chai honey from the local flea market on toasted whole grain bread.

I also had time to take a few super early morning shots- special thanks to my oldest doggy Lily who normally wakes me up at 6 am to go out so I can see the sunrise!

Also, some new music I’ve discovered… a huge thanks as usual to spotify’s “discover weekly” playlist tailored to my taste.

Favorite lately:

Often times I discover the cover of a song first, then learn of the actual song itself, like this princess of china one-
