A new year’s letter to the universe…

Listening now…

old you.jpg

Dear last year,

You were really good to me. You showed me more of who I am, parts of me that I didn’t even know existed.

You showed me disappointments, in the form of losing houses we fell in love with and a career I thought was a dream. You showed me that you can do everything and anything for someone you work for (or this can be applied to a lot of things in life) but that in the end, sometimes things are just too good to be true for a reason. Sometimes you need to walk away when you realize that being in an environment where your absolute best is never good enough is detrimental to your mental health, happiness, and well being.

This year taught me to run like Forest Gump in those situations. Run at the first sign of a red flag. Your instincts are instilled in you for a reason…use them.

But with these, you lead the way for me to even better paths. You made me aware of a strength I didn’t know I had when it comes to standing up for myself and knowing what I want and deserve.

Within you, 2018, I learned that it’s okay to just….need time. To decompress after these disappointments and disappear for awhile, if you need to.

I learned that “FOMO,” or “fear of missing out” is basically all in your head and I have gotten insanely good at appreciating what I have rather than comparing to others. We all feel bad with social media but I think it’s more about how you look at things. Like, seeing someone go on a beautiful vacation and feeling happy for them and also being like “that’s great and I would love to go there someday too- but after we buy our house! Because I have exciting things coming my way that are more important right now than traveling.” I also know myself well enough now to look at someone’s photos of being out and filtering my own thoughts-like thinking, wait, do I even want to be doing that right now? Actually no, I’m super happy being on my couch watching this movie with wine.

I learned that the hustle is real and you can damn well get anything that you want if you work hard enough. This means you don’t always listen to people who tell you that there’s no way you can travel while you are not working for 2 months (yup and I never did put up my Canada travel post- but I will!) or that you can’t possibly pay your bills through selling on Poshmark?! Watch me, yo.

Dear new year,

Hey girl…heyyyyyy.

us

I have to say, you are starting off with a bang!

Please continue to teach me valuable lessons.

Please bring me a house I love with enough space for a chicken, pygmy goat, and another pupper. (or 2…?)

Please help me with discipline and consistency. This goes with all things: bullet journaling, blogging, Poshmark, gym, yoga, etc.

Please allow me to finally actually learn the ukulele or guitar. (I see a theme here- again, consistency and discipline?!)

Please help me to continue stepping even further outside of my comfort zone.

Life lately…

Listening now…

Hey everyone! Are there any blog readers still out there? ….Hello?

This was a very unintentional and way too long blog break but I’m happy to be back! Life lately has pretty much hit me and made me as surprised as Molly is in this picture.

molly life.jpg

It’s been a busy summer with fun adventures involved. Here’s just some photos of a few things we have been doing.

The summer has been awesome & I hope you all are having a great one, too! We know it flies by and by the time we know it, it’s time for Halloween decorations and fall movies… which I am already excited for!!!

But the real reason I have been insanely busy is because I landed a new job!

I now work for Found My Animal

Our Mission

” Found My Animal promotes animal adoption in a very direct way: let your pet wear your values. By encouraging rescue over purchase, we support animal welfare by asking pets and their owners to help deliver our simple, important message. “

The owner’s adopted own- Claude & Henry.

If you have been reading for awhile, you may know that this is something I have wanted to do for a long time. Wanting to work for an animal rescue organization or company is a very specific goal and when I had actually started to think it was not going to happen for me, I saw this job and decided to give it a try. I’m so glad I did.

To work for a company like this is a dream! Part of my job is also community outreach- which will involve spreading the word about our company and even holding adoption events with dogs!

In addition to that, if you are interested in learning more about Found My Animal or even carrying us in your store, contact me! We love collaborating with new businesses and like-minded individuals supporting our mission.

The girls are definitely enjoying their Prismatic Ombre Adjustable leash

And they love being able to walk side by side!It has really helped Molly’s anxiety to go new places with Daisy walking on the leash next to her.

#Walkshandsfree #Walk2dogsatonce #Rainbowrope #Rainbowleash

And Molly feels amazing supporting a leash that supports rescuing animals, just like she was rescued almost a year ago by us. ❤

Molly

The day we found our animal. And she found us. #onherwayhome ❤

An excerpt from my blog post about Molly’s #foundmyanimal story…
We know she was left outside all day in the hot Tennessee weather.
We know that a woman had her and gave her up because she did not have patience with housebreaking her. Because you know, dogs take work and patience. But the love they give you back is ten fold and oh so worth it…
We know she is afraid of crates and wary of men coming near her but don’t know why.
We know she was afraid of water beating down of her because we (and her foster mom) suspect she may have been from a puppy mill.
We know that she is home now and we will never make her feel that way again.

How to get yourself unstuck

Listening now…

Do you ever just have “blah” days where you just feel like you are doing the same routine most days and need a change?

What I thought was a bad case of the Mondays, turned into a bad case of Tuesday and Wednesday too. I was feeling this ehh feeling- kind of related to our ongoing house hunting, (we found another home I loved but Frankie did not) still having an uncertainty around what I want to do career wise, and looking up jobs repeatedly in our area revealing the same type of positions that I either don’t want to apply for because they don’t interest me at all  or am under qualified for.

A lot of this had me feeling in a “stuck” mood these past few days- which I know we all go through at times.

Upon this feeling, I did what anyone would do. Consult google- of course! GTS. (Google that sh**)

I came across this extremely helpful article- here.

Upon reading the article I realized that a lot of these phases where I feel this way are related to my inability at that current time to be mindful and in the present. Did I forget that I just wrote about this?!

I really loved this part of the article….

Every year, I have periods where I feel “stuck.”

Yet when I look closer, I see that “being stuck” is a label I give to a natural part of life.

It’s a time when not much happens. The anxiety comes when I think it should be otherwise. I start to force myself to work, to come up with ideas, and to make things happen.

And when I don’t get anywhere, I call it being stuck.

So, what is being stuck except the way I perceive life?

As I write this, I’ve been in a stuck period for the last few months. The difference is that I struggle less, because I’m beginning to let it be.

As I sit here and write this, I have our Young Living Essential Oils Diffuser going and am listening to the peepers outside and just pouring my heart into writing. That brings me to my first tip for what I have found helpful in these “stuck” phases.

How to get unstuck

Get back to the things you enjoy. Even if it’s in a new way.

ashokan 1ashokan 2.jpglake 2.jpglake.jpg

There is something comforting and necessary for us about going back to what makes us feel good. Like for me- being outside in this beautiful weather was something that lifted my spirits this week when I was in my stuck mindset. I had work appointments out and I decided to try to see a new lake and reservoir I had not been to, only ever driven by. I got back to the things I enjoy- but discovered new places to go.

I would advise you to try to think of something you love but may not have been making enough time for lately and get back to that. But try it in a new way if you can!

Notice the little things & be mindful of your present.

So maybe we are feeling stuck in a job we have been at for 5 years but don’t absolutely adore or feel called to do anymore. We started obsessing over the future and “should-ing” on ourselves. Should we leave said job to pursue a new one- to feel better? It’s good to try new things- but maybe that new job ends up to be worse and we are left wishing for our old one back. This obsession causes us to forget to be present in those beautiful little everyday things that make life worthwhile! In the end it is not about what career we had that will make us happiest. It is looking back and seeing that the little things really were the big things- so don’t let them slip by you.

Pictures from this weekend….

Stop Comparing Yourself.

I think we tend to get stuck because we compare our journey with others as well. This person is the same age as me- and they are doing “better.” What is better anyway? Everyone is fighting their own battles. Maybe that person appears to be doing really well on social media- but they are struggling equally as much as you. Your journey can’t be compared to anyone else because it is yours and there are no instructions or map to your life.

normal quote.jpg

Realize that the confusion and uncertainty are part of the journey.

Most people I meet do not know what they want to do with their lives. It is actually the norm. I think we focus too much on careers and having them as our identities and not enough on the other things we can enjoy in life…learn to enjoy the process. Everyone is going through it.

How do you get yourself unstuck?

Santorini, Greece Bucket List

Listening now…

This is going to be a long list and I may add to it as time goes along and the trip gets closer. I will do an update post once I have actually visited with where I suggest to go and pictures from the trip itself.

There is SO much to do on this little island that I have read about, it is hard to compile one list. I am not sure if every single one of these things will happen, but we are going to try our hardest to make every day count as much as possible!

We travel to Santorini from May 10th to the 19th. If you missed my Currently in March post, it has been my dream to go here ever since the first Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movie came out and that dream is finally becoming a reality!

From what I have read online (and there are SO many resources out there it’s a bit overwhelming,) there are quite a few must sees and must dos when in Santorini. When I read about all that Greece has to offer and look at pictures, I get chills.

Santorini is only 1 of the many islands in Greece, but with so much to do. It was devastated by volcanic eruption in the 16th century BC, creating it’s rugged and cliffside landscape.

Hike from Fira to Oia and see the famous Santorini sunset. (With a bottle of wine)

It has been said that people travel from all over the world to Santorini simply to see a Santorini sunset. I can see why…

Walk the steps from Oia to Amoudi Bay.

I can’t even fathom the beauty of Amoudi Bay when I look at pictures online…

Visit these towns/villages & walk around, shop, eat in: Oia, Fira, Imerovigli, Kamari, Perissa

Each little village seems to have it’s own uniqueness to it and known for it’s own “thing.” We have read that Fira is where the party is at, Imerovigli is great for shopping, and Oia is great for dining by the water and their infamous sunsets.

I definitely want to take full advantage of Greek shopping and maybe visit a farmers market…!

I need to get some beautiful Greek souvenirs and am really hoping to come home with some really once in a lifetime kind of fashion pieces that I can cherish forever and remind me of the trip. 🙂

Beaches: Perissa, Red Beach, Kamari Beach

Santorini is known for it’s unique beaches- many of them are made up of dark volcanic sand, rather than the typical white sand you think of. But they seem to have a beauty all to their own!

Immerse into the history and culture of Santorini.

The history of Santorini includes volcanos and tons of ancient ruins to explore. If you know anything about my blog so far, you may know that I love abandoned ruins.

Specifically, I would love to go visit Ancient Thera in Kamari and the ancient archeological site Akrotiri.

I also definitely want to check out the many museums of Santorini!

As for the culture…

We have read that Greeks are known for their hospitality. They are also very superstitious.

I want to come home with as much Greek knowledge as possible, including some language! I want to learn as much as I can about the Greek Gods and Goddesses. I would also like to feel as much like a Goddess while there as possible.

Scuba Dive down to a plane wreck…

I have to do quite a bit more research on this and it may have to be a day trip outside of the general area we will be staying in- but I definitely think it would be worth it!

Rent a quad or moped and ride around the island.

Because I can’t think of anything more heavenly than riding on a quad along a coastline with your hair blowing in the warm wind…it is surprisingly cheap to rent a quad for an entire 8-9 days, too. So we can pretty much rent one and park it all over the place.

Swim in the hot springs.

This is a must for me…

When else will you get the chance to swim in a hot spring other than Greece? Just don’t wear a good bathing suit I have read it tends to stay with you for awhile….. #takethehotspringhome

Food and Drink:

Where do I start?

Here’s just some of the yummies in Greece. From what I have found so far, Greeks love their pastries filled with cheese. Count me in. Also sweet custard deserts seem to be of top priority. Again….count.me.in.

More Greek food to make you hungry.

Among my list of musts to try: Baklava (pastry filled with filo and chopped nuts and honey,) Spanakopita (savory pastry filled with spinach, eggs, feta cheese, onions, seasoning,) and I absolutely need to try an actual Greek gyro, to name a few.

Also…. WINE.

The amount of wineries I have read about whilst doing research is making me so thirsty….

Also. Dinner with a view needs to happen- and is inevitable to happen while in Greece.
