November Gratitude ; Week 1

Listening now…

It’s that time of year again.

Everyone is gearing up for the holidays, getting cozy, and feeling those Sweet November vibes.

And while most of the world is skipping over Thanksgiving and running right to Christmas (I know guys I get it, it’s the absolute best and I myself am guilty of watching Christmas movies earlier this year….sorry!) I like to stop and reflect on my gratitude.

For the past 3 years on this little blog, I have done November gratitude posts. Looking back on my posts, this one hurts my heart, as it was our very last Thanksgiving with my dear papa.

Speaking of gratitude, I’ll always be thankful for the Lessons my papa taught me.

Re reading them over and reflecting on this past year (this is another reason we love the holidays) they ring more true than ever.

Yes, it really has been quite the year. In so many good and changing ways.

My November Gratitude ; Week 1:

99835A0C-0E82-4CAD-9CD6-7F06071BFF50The amazing support I have gotten from my family and friends while starting my business. Go read my last post where I talk about that journey!

Starting a business is not by any means easy. If it was, everyone would be doing it! Having a good support system is completely vital to succeed. Frankie has gone above and beyond in being patient with me while we waited to reap the benefits (and see the kind of profit we need to see) to keep me going.

Along with that, he has been SUPER patient while he has been watching me turn our upstairs room into my office and understands that re-selling items means I need to have a fully stocked inventory ; )

99835A0C-0E82-4CAD-9CD6-7F06071BFF50Being able to do what I love, work from home, and receiving those love notes once buyers receive their items. It makes me so happy to see that people love these items as much as I do because I pick each and every one out so carefully!

You can also follow my journey here on Youtube.

I do a lot of thrift hauls, what sold videos, and vlogs! I just finished doing Vlogtober and had SO much fun doing that and am ready to take on Vlogmas, where I post a video every day in December. So make sure you are following along so you don’t miss that!

Another Youtube goal I have is to post helpful content such as Poshmark and Ebay selling tips (I did 2 tips videos for Ebay already) that are uncommon/ things you don’t hear about a lot while searching for help. Coming soon!

99835A0C-0E82-4CAD-9CD6-7F06071BFF50I’m so grateful to be spending the holidays for the first year in our new home!

I am already thinking of ideas to decorate for Christmas and cannot wait to scroll through other blogs and Pinterest for inspiration…!

Do you guys already have Christmas decor ideas?

99835A0C-0E82-4CAD-9CD6-7F06071BFF50I’m grateful for food in my belly, a beautiful and warm home, and having enough money to pay all of my bills.

A simple thing yet something we take for granted, isn’t it? To be honest with you guys, a couple of things recently have dramatically changed the way I think about money: losing my job this June, and now making my own money with my business.

This has taught me some extremely valuable lessons: Nothing is guaranteed, even “stable” 9-5 jobs, it is completely up to you how much money you earn and save, and the amount you make will completely depend on how much work you put in.

With my jobs prior, I was making that paycheck every week and since I knew it was coming, I took advantage of it and I was not good at saving money for a rainy day. Now that I work for myself and my income is dependent on the work I put in, the money I am not investing back into the business, or using to pay my bills, gets put away in savings.

I’m truly grateful for the lessons this has taught me!

I think a lot of people are afraid to start a business because of the uncertainty of it but to me from my past experiences, this somehow feels more stable to me because I am in control of it. I have also learned that the uncertainty is not near as scary when you have savings put aside. When you are thinking ahead and know to put away for those less than stellar sales weeks (or restaurant days, whatever that business may be!) it suddenly seems much more do-able as a long term option.

99835A0C-0E82-4CAD-9CD6-7F06071BFF50I’m grateful for Lifetime Christmas movies.

YES I STARTED OKAY. I’m sorry mama! I never watch before Thanksgiving but… this year…is just different. I think because we have our first Christmas in the house coming up and that is so exciting!

So we don’t have cable- but we do have Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu live. We just recently got Hulu live because we don’t have cable and it’s amazing! So while I don’t have Hallmark, I’m so thankful we at least have Lifetime!

lifetime.jpg

Another thing I am grateful for is anyone who still reads my blog, even through all of the ups and downs! I was working hard on my Youtube for awhile but am not ready to blog once a week again and I have so many ideas!

What are you feeling grateful for this November?

November Gratitude: Year 2/ Week 2

Listening now…

If you missed week 1 gratitude, start here.

november

This week I’m grateful for….

New opportunities.

I got invited to attend a work fundraiser (and work it) and I am not going to lie, I didn’t want to go at first. Mainly because it was a week night (lol) and I am normally very busy with school work and other things during the week. My work friend convinced me to go and looking back I am really glad I did!

This was an event where you could “walk the red carpet” with the non profit agency I work with. The idea behind the event was to debut a documentary that was made about the clients we help (with the clients actually in the movie- many of whom work for the agency now) and tickets sold at the door benefit our programs.

I felt honored to be there and had a great time- it was also really cool to see my logo that I made for it featured on each photo taken on the red carpet!

We also had the opportunity to throw a group for the teens we work with and baked apple pies and crisps and made thankful trees.

It was really cute to see what the kids wrote and to teach them to appreciate gratitude…

A few different kids wrote our agency on their leaves and our shelters that we run, which was really cute to see.

New Sims games!

Sims 4 cats and dogs came out this Friday and of course I made a Molly already!

It’s really well done and you can even create mixed breeds, so I created her Chihuahua- Papillon mix.

I am thinking about doing another A Sim Story series  but with the cats and dogs expansion pack.  (And I would actually continue with it this time….)

Let me know what you think!

My Sim version of Molly acts like a goofball like real life Molly.

A weekend to relax and getting back to routines…

Being an introvert,  I am pretty excited to have a little time “off” from having many plans.

The last few weeks were really fun with Halloween, a busy family wedding, and the work event and group. But I am kind of excited to have a few weeks that aren’t as busy for a little while until the holidays come! This weekend I had a lot of down time which included a lot of Sims time.

Getting back to routines is good, too… that includes going to the gym and back to my spin, zumba, and yoga classes. I haven’t gone in a few weeks and I feel the difference in my body, especially in how tense my shoulders are.

What are you grateful for this week ?

November Gratitude: Year 2/Week 1

Listening now…

seeds.jpg

It’s time for my November Gratitude weekly posts again! (Our second year doing this as the title says!) I don’t know how it’s quite this time already, but it is.

I didn’t realize until working on this post that November is actually National Gratitude month! I just like to think more about gratitude this month as we come up on Thanksgiving.

I can’t believe we are coming up on the holidays, but I am also so excited! It is the best part of the year (besides summer) October-January when we have a string of holidays to look forward to.

This week I’m Grateful for….

Celebrations of love.

We were blessed enough to celebrate a wedding this weekend for Frankie’s very close first cousin. I am always grateful to see others celebrate their love and felt honored to be a part of it!

wedding 3photobooth

New shows coming back.

shameless.jpg

This one might seem silly (or not to some of you?!) but this fall has been amazing for shows coming back- Stranger Things and Shameless came back today!! I’m only on episode 4 of Stranger Things so no spoilers…. =P (Not to mention This is Us which has been amazing.)

And I just found out The Crown is coming back to Netflix this December 8th!

A change of seasons.

It got dark by 5 today… I definitely struggle with winter but still appreciate the change in seasons and the part of winter that brings being inside and cozy, and letting your introvert flag really fly.   And by that, I mean being a bit of a hermit.  Life slows down a bit more, and I am looking forward to that.

How well Molly has adjusted with us.

IMG_5723

These 2 are best friends now.

You go into a rescue knowing it is not going to be easy. Your rescue brings with them baggage of trauma that has to be worked through and kinks to figure out. It is especially hard when you already have 2 other dogs to think about and get all all acquainted. Especially if one of those dogs (Daisy I’m looking at you) is already extremely high strung and not friendly with other dogs.

That being said, we are so blessed at how well this has turned out for all of us. Molly can’t go anywhere without following Daisy around and she basically idolizes her, it’s so cute. The two of them are now BFF and it’s crazy to even think of a time when Molly wasn’t in our family.

big three

For anyone that watches This is Us, my mom and I joke that the girls are “The Big Three.” Especially since Molly is adopted like Randall…lol.

A job that lets me bring my talents forward.

I am truly lucky to have my job- I have an amazingly supportive boss and coworkers and it is extremely flexible. My boss also lets me attend school and work my hours around that. In addition, they let me test out my Graphic Design skills on a fundraiser logo! The logo will be featured on photos that will be taken at a fundraiser we have this week and I was really honored they thought of me and felt confident in putting me on this task. I had so much fun doing it, too!

What are you grateful for this first week of November?

November gratitude: week 4

Listening now…

I hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving!

I am sorry guys- life has been busy, as it happens.

A good kind of busy, though. The kind of busy that means that life is moving forward and things are movin’ on up. Also, we are ripping up our floors because we have some cheeky Jack Russells who insist that the floor is theirs to do whatever they please with (pee) and therefore, it must go.

Alas, we have week 4 of our gratitude and I have so much to be grateful for. The show must go on, even if the floor is being pulled out beneath you.

angel Grateful for family. Family you may see often and family that you may not…grateful for new family members and old traditions.

IMG_8014.JPG

My cousin brought home a Siberian Husky for Thanksgiving- meet our new addition to the family, Grizzly. Grizzly lives in a frat house and is quite the ladies man.

Grizzly enjoys cheesecake, time with the family, and long walks to the fridge. (to get more cheesecake)

A tradition I think we must continue: Caramel apple sangria…. nom.

angelGrateful for the Christmas holiday and all it entails: cheesy Hallmark Christmas movies, Christmas shopping, warm fuzzy feeling, etc. etc.

And puppies who let you dress them up for the holiday…

It really is the most wonderful time of the year.

Happy November everyone!

November gratitude: week 3

Listening now….

I am grateful for songs like this that bring tears to my eyes and have so much meaning of gratitude in them.

“I don’t care if the house is packed
Or the strings of light are broken
I don’t care if the gifts are wrapped
Or there’s nothing here to open
Love is not a toy, and no paper will conceal it
Love is simply joy that I’m home
I don’t care if the carpet’s stained we’ve got food upon our table
I don’t care if it’s gonna rain, our little room is warm and stable
Love is who we are, and no season can contain it
Love would never fall for that”

We usually don’t listen to Christmas music before Thanksgiving, but this year I caved!

Monday has come again and I  enjoyed a Sunday night snuggled up with a glass of wine and my computer on my lap to blog our 3rd week of November gratitude!I sat in the cozy living room with mama watching the Christmas lights around me twinkle and smelling the pine scented candles mom had lit. Tidings of comfort and joy… Puppies snoring behind me, too. I enjoyed every bit our last moment of peace and serenity before another busy week…

Week 3 gratitude:

angel I am grateful for the change of the seasons and the opportunity to embrace all that they have to offer. This weekend, that meant a holiday farmer’s market (in 65 degrees and sunny) and decorating for the holiday.

angelI am grateful for the ability to express myself through my sense of style and through blogging.

And for a patient mama who can take pictures of me for my blog. Good thing she’s a blogger too so she gets it!

Here’s what I wore to the Holiday market! #OOTD

I am like a walking ad for H&M. The pants, shirt, and duster are all from there!

(Not planned)

I wanted these shoes all summer. I finally found them for $7 on sale at Target at the end of the season!

A not so typical 65 and sunny day in late November on the mountain top…

angelI am grateful for our first big snowfall, my cozy home, and family traditions for Christmas.

(By the way- this was Saturday night into Sunday- right after our 65 and sunny day!)

We decorated on Saturday with the warm weather and felt lucky to wake up to snow and be able to enjoy our Christmas decorations with the snow falling outside.

November gratitude: week 2

Listening now…

gratitude

Last week I started week 1 of my weekly November gratitude posts.

We are in week 2 already and Christmas will be here before we know it! But let’s focus on the now and giving thanks…

Week 2 gratitude:

angelI am grateful for well spent weekends with my love and peaceful hikes.

I am grateful that I have new places to explore all of the time and new adventures to be made. As well as new abandons adventures. Like these old estate ruins we found…

It’s a new work week and I’m sad already. But looking through my pictures from our day of adventures makes me happy and feel better.

I needed an adventure and fresh air. I can’t wait to go hiking again! I want to do as many fall hikes as I can before the snow comes.

I found this article of these abandoned ruins you can hike to in upstate NY and I am determined to do as many of them as possible before snow. (We will see what happens but that is the plan!)

Why are the weekends so short and the weeks so long? : (

November gratitude: week 1

Listening now…

gratitude.jpg

Last November I talked and thought a lot about gratitude.

I want to keep that going for this year and do a weekly gratitude post! It’s the perfect time to give thanks for what we have when Thanksgiving will be upon us shortly. By the way…I can’t even believe that!

This blog was created at a time when I was having trouble being mindful, staying in the present, and not inducing anxiety for myself thinking about the future. I still struggle with that and maybe we all do. Especially as a 20 something, who feels like she must have it all figured out. As if time is passing by so quickly…

I think stopping to think about all that we have to be grateful for is really helpful in keeping yourself in the present.

Week 1 gratitude:

I am grateful for an awesome job that lets me help people.

I work for a nonprofit helping teens and young adults 16-24 obtain and keep employment. Along with this, comes an array of other issues they are dealing with rather than just jobs.

Working with people who have a lot less than you do on a daily basis can really make you more appreciative of the little things in your life, that you may take for granted without even realizing it.

In addition to that, I work for a company that gives a lot of time off and offers great flexibility and freedom. It gives me the opportunity to work on other projects on the side, go to school if I want to, and work on bettering myself.

unnamed

This is what I did today!

I am grateful for my favorite people (and dogs) in my life. Grateful that my family is not only that, but also are my best friends.

(I love them all to infinity and beyond. Lolz. Had to.)

buzz.jpgmama and sis.jpgtubsstinker.jpg

I am grateful for my creativity.

There was a point that I thought I was not creative simply because I am not good at drawing, painting, etc.

I have realized as I’ve grown up that creativity comes in so many forms. Just because you may not be able to draw any other form of person besides stick figure form does not mean that you are not creative!

Blogging has helped me realize a whole other creative world- putting words and pictures together, along with music that resonates with what I am writing about on that particular post, makes me feel good. It makes me feel even better when people respond to it. Thank you readers!

And planning with my Happy planner makes me feel this way, too.

I am grateful for my body and the way it lets me move every day.

How often do we stop and think how amazing our bodies are to us? Not enough, I think.

It came to me recently in my Zumba class-just wow. Zumba is such a mix of mental and physical work. Following along the best you can to the moves, remembering the moves, and physically moving quickly to the beat of the music. It’s hard. Our bodies do so much for us every day and it’s so important that we thank it by nourishing it with good food, exercise, and sometimes even wine 😉

I am grateful for my car and the freedom it gives me.

Okay, I know it’s a material item, but I am currently working with a young single mom whose car has broken down (2nd car in about 2-3 months) and it has me feeling especially grateful for my car and all of the freedom it gives me. I have been there- broken down on the side of the road multiple times on my way to college and stuck somewhere because my car would not start and has some mysterious electrical issue. (I would just have to wait a little while and it would start again) So I know what it’s like…when I graduated college and was finally able to afford a decent car I was beyond happy.

My car treats me well and I love it.

I am grateful for November, a time to remind us to give thanks and be grateful.

thanksgiving.jpg

I was looking for an inspirational gratitude quote to end this with, but I came across this. I think it sends just as important of a message to remain grateful even in hard or stressful times. : )

What are you grateful for this week?
