Lessons from my Poshmark fall wardrobe

Listening now…

I have been through some life changes since my last blog post… more to come on that later. I will have a lot more time to blog (at least for now) and plan on getting back into the weekly blog swing of things.

It’s fall!

My absolute favorite time of the year to blog about all things fashion related.

Whether it’s a Fall Fashion Inspiration post, a Spooky shoot, I really love doing these.

This time I thought I would do something a little different.

While going through my photo shoot photos from the other night, I realized that our clothes can kind of….teach us something.

We wear what we feel and we wear our hearts on our sleeves.

In the mornings, we go through our closets and carefully choose how we want to portray to others that day, we wear Black to certain occasions, our friend tells us “wow, you have a lot of Black clothes!” while going through your closet-while you may have never noticed before.

We speak as silently, or as loudly, as we want to the world with what we clothe our bodies with.

Here are some lessons from my Poshmark fall wardrobe, which you can find here:

Be as humbly yourself as possible, but with attitude.

It’s perfectly okay to be quiet- if that’s who you are (me.)

But never, ever, ever let people tell you who you should be, walk all over you, treat you less than you deserve.

Remain yourself, but know when to step outside of this comfort zone when it comes to protecting your own values.

Damn straight.

Keep it simple.

This means taking time to sit with yourself and learn patience through your process.

Wake up in the morning, wipe the sleepy from your eyes and look up at the sun and how it has risen for you ; the way in which it has blessed and given you another minute, another hour, another day.

For a minute quickly becomes days and months and years and if we don’t take the time to sit with it, really notice it and breathe it in, it will evaporate right before us.

And on it goes…keep it simple.

Daydream as often as you like.

Zara Dreamer Jacket    |  Express Dress ; Vintage boots

Play dress up with your life and try on as many varieties as you like.

Our choices were not meant to be taken so seriously…

Do your very best and the universe will send rewards and gratification your way.

It’s okay to dress like Fiona and Frank from Shameless.

In fact, I encourage it.

But don’t be too much of a Frank…. #Shameless

Mental health monthly faves: October

It’s been awhile since I have done a mental health monthly favorites post!

These are the things that help me maintain mental sanity in that particular month.

Although I love the month of October, it gets dark by 6:30 pm now and it snowed twice already here on the mountain top. Within a week.

With this change of seasons comes even more of a need for life’s little comforts…

October mental health monthly faves:

Outfits that make me feel good:

I feel prettiest lately in my dresses with tights and boots. My 2 favorites right now are my new plaid dress and these orange sparkly tights from H&M.

This is one of those outfits that after the fact I realized-I really wish I staged a whole fashion shoot with! But instead, you have me posing for Frankie as he takes pictures of me in his room. (please excuse the garbage can, lol)

Some day I will stage another actual fashion photo post. Like real bloggers do. Hehe.

Another well planned out fashion photo for the blog. Lol. This sweater was thrifted as well but is from Target!

Thrifting and thrift hauls:

Let’s be real….shopping makes you feel good. There’s something about the thrill of finding those perfect items unexpectedly while out thrifting!

Last weekend I went Halloween costume searching at goodwill and salvation army and was not sure what to be when I arrived. When I left, I left with a pair of moon boots, which I knew would work perfectly for this weekend’s space themed party.

Not only that, but I came across these wonders.

The dress is the one I am wearing above and it’s now one of my favorite dresses. The bag is a Dooney and Bourke, which I got for $15 and it goes for $60 or more on ebay. The shoes are Bass duck boots, which I found online for and can retail for $100 or more depending on the site.

The crazy moon boots that I won’t wear ever again…but they will be great for my costume!

Sims:

I have been playing sims since I was 7 years old. I have played ever since, on and off, in binges- I will play it obsessively (when I have time) for hours, months, then put it down for 6 months and pick it back up again.

When the days start to get dark earlier and many people can be found curled up with a good book, you can find me curled up with a good sims session or another game.

My obsession with Shameless went a little farther this time when I went and created a whole Shameless Gallagher family and re-created their entire house, as best as I could. I think the kitchen came out the best!

My next plan is to make Patsy’s pies diner where Fiona works since I have Sims Dine out expansion pack. And I’m basically going to have Frank come in and out and wreck havoc on their lives every now and then.

And you know I plan on getting Sims 4 city living when it comes out November 1st! Then the Gallaghers will move to their real hometown of Chicago.

I am pretty excited about the new social media and food critic job as well as festivals in the city and other city aspects like high rise apartments!

Exercise and keeping busy:

I think I am the kind of person who needs to be busy most of the time, but also make time to relax in between.

I have been trying to keep my gym routine from getting boring by trying new classes- Piyo, spin, and zumba. Now Zumba and cycle have become part of my regular routine!

It’s also been a good way to see my friends, who are just as busy, and we can do classes together.

Exercise is amazing for your mental health and I can’t imagine having a week without it! This week I missed my spin class because I had to stack wood and yesterday it snowed so I missed working out, but still shoveled snow, and I feel it in my arms today! I think it’s all about balance.

This is good for everyone’s mental health:

Two of my favorite things in 1 glorious video….Stranger Things and Peanuts. I just watched the great pumpkin last night with mama!

It’s a bit early to start thinking about Christmas, I know, but honestly with all the snow we got, it doesn’t seem that weird to me right now…

Here’s the article where I originally found the video.

Thanks, Hellogiggles.

What are some things that helped you this month?

Shamelessly obsessed

As if I needed another thing to be obsessed with, I have found Showtime’s Shameless.

I’ll let google explain the premise of the show:

“Oscar-nominated actor William H. Macy stars as Frank Gallagher, a single father of six who spends much of his free time drinking at bars. The Gallagher children — led by oldest daughter Fiona (Emmy Rossum), who takes on much of the child-rearing responsibility due to her mother’s absence — manage to raise themselves in spite of Frank’s lack of parenting and unusual parenting style when he does choose to act like a father. The drama is an adaptation of the BAFTA Award-winning British show of the same name.”

Via:

My boyfriend got me hooked- the very first episode I knew. In my opinion, this show is really underrated. I had heard about it before, but not much. After watching I couldn’t believe I had never known! It’s only on showtime, but luckily there’s this wonderful phenomenon called the inter web.

Here are some reasons you should be watching, too:

  1. Frank.

Frank shameless.jpg

You just have to watch to understand Frank. His hilarious drunken antics mixed with his want to still be involved in his family, coupled with his naive misunderstanding of why he is not father of the year. Frank spends most of his time at the bar, buying drinks with his disability checks or thinking of creative ways to keep his disability checks flowin’ so it keeps the beer flowin’, too.

2.  It shows the struggles of real life, a modern day yet unconventional family, and the power of women.

fiona gif.gif

Pretty much explains it…

You have got to admire Fiona’s ability to take on a household of 6 kids without her absent mom and drunken dad Frank- I also love Emmy Rossum and she is such a classic beauty. I find her relationship with Frank interesting- it seems she has just learned to cope with him, she will let him sleep drunkingly on her living room floor after she just spent the whole day taking care of his kids and still tuck him in. Not sure how she does it. But she also has enough spitfire to tell Frank or the kids what they need to hear. She’s just trying to keep everything afloat while dating a bad boy and making some time for herself, too. [Well, trying].

She’s pretty much a modern day Wonder Woman.

3. It’s honestly just a good time.  You will be laughing, a lot. You will be admiring the Gallaghers for how they band together in times of need and always manage to get by any quirky situation, just in the nick of time.

You will understand this. When you begin your binge.

So begin.
